Australian vocalist and songwriter Wafia returns with her new single ’83 Days’, which premiered on triple j’s Good Nights with Linda Marigliano. Co-written with Ben Abraham and produced by Toro, ’83 Days’ is the is her first solo release since her debut XXIX EP in 2015 and the first track from her forthcoming EP set for release via Future Classic in 2017.

Wafia says of the song, “This song comes after someone I love wouldn’t stay. I developed an obsession with noting down the ways their absence was so loud and present. How intangible they had become. How intangible the memories I was left with are. How I reminisce on only the highest points of the situation that I know were so bad for me. How something that ceased to exist anymore could be felt constantly.

83 Days’ is the most recent release from the 23 year old Netherlands born, Brisbane-based Wafia Al-Rikabi, which follows the collaborative (m)edian EP with label mate Ta-ku and the duo’s subsequent world tour. Watch their performance on NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert here.
83 Days’ is out now via Future Classic.

TEISCHA DEBUTS SINGLE ‘MIDNIGHT HOUR’

Meet Teischa, the young Perth-based, self-taught pianist and vocalist, who debuts her single, ‘Midnight Hour’ which premiered on triple j’s Good Nights with Linda Marigliano. Taken from her debut self-titled EP, ‘Midnight Hour’ is at once commanding and calm, gripping you with powerful vocals across bold production. Listen below:

Combining her love of classical and soul music, and inspired by female voices like Lauryn Hill and Nina Simone, Teischa delivers a full debut EP including tracks ‘Move’ and ‘Oh Brother’ that offer up a silky, contemporary spin on classical technique, with each song as understated and charming as she is. Growing up in Thailand and pretending to read sheet music when instead learning by ear via YouTube videos on repeat, Teischa writes songs that tell stories of cultural dislocation and finding one’s place in the world.

Having performed at the 2016 Byron Bay Bluesfest and Groovin The Moo, Teischa has supported the likes of Vera Blue, Vallis Alps which is just the start of an impressive resume that she has mustered for her age.

MID AYR UNVEIL POCKET HER EYES VIDEO

Having released their second EP Elm Way on April 21, Mid Ayr has revealed the video for their latest single Pocket Her Eyes. Directed by Thomas Calder of  Tinker Films (The Trouble With Templeton) the frenetic showpiece is a non-linear visual of night time madness, uncovering the darkness within.  The video comes ahead of Mid Ayr’s first east coast tour this April and May, and follows on from their acclaimed 2016 self-titled debut EP which featured Letting You In, the #1 most played Australian track at triple j.
The Brisbane two-piece comprised of Hugh Middleton (Guitar/Vocals) and Zac Moynihan (Drums) master the art of gritty production, heavy-driving drums, dissonant guitar bends and grainy synth.  Pocket Her Eyes sees main songwriter Hugh Middleton making “an observational commentary on society turning sexual pursuits into a contest.”

Recorded in Luv Basement, their inner-city underground studio, the new recordings once again feature Alex L’Estrange on co-production duties with Hugh and Zac, Elm Way touches on love, loss and the pressures of social acceptance.

2016 was a watershed year for Mid Ayr with the success of Letting You In which continued when Vampires, the second single from their debut EP was handpicked by Unearthed and NIDA as the winner of their national music video competition. Mid Ayr also toured as special guests for Olympia, showcased at BIGSOUND and performed at boutique festivals Jungle Love and End of the Line.
