Sydney’s Lucy Washington and Jake Smith have been friends for half a lifetime and collaborators for a year. Together, they’re Yuma X, the Sydney duo marked as one of 2015’s best new names.
It only took one song for Yuma X to turn heads. A cover of indie act Ghoul, their debut single Swimming Pool was an instant hit, soaring to the #1 spot on the HypeMachine charts in May and clocking up a cool 1.5 million SoundCloud plays along the way.
Now, Lucy and Jake are ready to share what else they’ve been working on. The next single to come from the pair is Matchstick, a slow-burning ode to the first sparks of a new relationship. See the video here.
It’s not the only new music they have ready – coming soon is the four-track Home Recordings EP, a product of their time together in Jake’s home studio.
Like Swimming Pool, the Home Recordings EP is a chilled-out and always engrossing blend of electronic, ambient and pop sounds, pairing gentle electronic production with Lucy’s husky, distinctive vocals.
Yuma X will accompany RUFUS on their sold-out tour of Australia, heading around the country this month.
